Daniel hunts down images before they can happen, then captures them at the best moment to reveal the purest emotion, from anticipation to exhilaration, serene contentment to utter shock.
And he does it every single day. Whether helping a couple celebrate their union, covering a hurricane for a national newspaper, or building on his unparalleled catalog of Hatteras Island imagery. And yet, despite being heralded as one of the best lensmen in the state — and the top Outer Banks photographer of his generation — he maintains the humility and self-awareness to recognize that he can always improve, from keeping up with the latest tech to honing his skills and perpetually recalibrating his own criteria for excellence.
It’s the kind of creativity and commitment that’s earned top assignments from leading publications (Washington Post, New York Times, Surfer's Journal, The New Yorker), national recognition (“Time’s Top 100 Photos of 2020”), and major awards (2020 NC Press Association’s Hugh Morton Photographer of the Year).
